Can I Have My Money Back? by Gerry Rafferty returns to vinyl-a beautifully crafted debut that laid the foundation for one of the most distinctive voices in British singer-songwriter history. Originally released in 1971, this album blends folk, soft rock, and baroque pop elements, showcasing Rafferty's lyrical wit, melodic sensibility, and warm, expressive vocals. It marked the start of a solo career that would later bring international acclaim with hits like "Baker Street," but already here, Rafferty's artistry is unmistakable. The title track "Can I Have My Money Back?" stands out for it's clever wordplay and catchy rhythm, while songs like "Mary Skeffington" and "Sign on the Dotted Line" highlight Rafferty's ability to mix personal reflection with accessible, elegant songwriting. The arrangements, rich with acoustic textures, piano, and vocal harmonies, often feature early contributions from his future Stealers Wheel partner, Joe Egan, adding depth and character to the sound. This reissue offers a fresh opportunity to appreciate Gerry Rafferty's early brilliance on vinyl, where the warmth of analog perfectly complements the album's rich instrumentation. A must-have for fans of thoughtful, melodic songwriting, Can I Have My Money Back? is a timeless gem that deserves a place in any serious collection.
